Cascadia Kiwanis Club is unique because it is an Internet based Kiwanis Club. The club chartered March 8, 2009 with 43 members.
The Cascadia Kiwanis Club meets the 1st Monday of each month online and we enjoy all the privileges of Kiwanis membership. While we operate our club online, our members contribute in very real ways helping to improve the lives of children and those in need, in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the world!
The Kiwanis Statement: “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. “
The Kiwanis Mission: Kiwanis empowers communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children.
Kiwanis is an International service organization that was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. Early club activities focused on business networking but serving the poor was a part of the Kiwanis experience. By 1919 the organization had changed its focus from business networking to community service. Kiwanis club membership is now open to men and women over the age of 18 years.
Kiwanis family organizations also exist for certain groups who are also dedicated to the ideals of community service. These Kiwanis family organizations include;
Aktion Club – Adults living with disabilities form their own Kiwanis family clubs and give back to their communities through hands on projects.
CKI – Circle K International (CKI) is comprised of college students who perform service projects and gain valuable leadership experience.
Key Club – High School students who join Key Club perform community service and gain valuable leadership experience.
Builder’s Club – Young teens in middle schools conduct community service projects.
K-Kids Club – Elementary school children conduct their own community service projects.
Kiwanis also sponsors other service leadership programs including
Kiwanis Terrific Kids – A program designed to promote character. Students work to improve behavior, attendance, schoolwork and relationships with classmates.
Kiwanis Bring Up Grades (BUG) – Students are motivated by the BUG Program to work hard to improve their grades without being in competition with other students.
Key Leader – High school student leaders take the next extraordinary step through challenging leadership training in Key Leader sessions.
